GREGORY NORTON began keyboard and violin lessons at age eight and has spent a lifetime as a musician of wide-ranging interests.  He has for three decades conducted choirs and orchestras in community and church settings in the states of California and Colorado and is also active as an organist and musical arranger.  His performing life has led him from the adobe churches of Santa Fe to the cathedrals of England, and choirs under his direction have toured Germany, Austria and Mexico. 

He is a nationally-known church musician and currently serves as Minister of Music and Communications at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, Calif.  Since 1993 he has also served as Music Director of the Claremont Chorale, a community chorus based in Claremont, Calif.  His compositions and arrangements are published by H.T. FitzSimons and Emerson Music and he is frequently invited to speak on musical topics, to contribute writing to professional journals and to lead singing at denominational gatherings. 

Greg has served on several denominational boards and on the boards of various professional music organizations.  For eight years he co-chaired the Orders of Ministry for the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the UMC and spent four years as the National Chaplain of the American Guild of Organists.  In that capacity his monthly column in the journal The American Organist was distributed to the Guild’s over 20,000 members internationally.  Currently he is the Regional Coordinator for Professional Development in the Guild's West Region.

A native of Redlands, Calif., Greg holds degrees in conducting from Chapman College and the University of Southern California and the Colleague certificate from the American Guild of Organists.  He attended the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, and is an ordained minister in The United Methodist Church.
